Visiting Chatham Square, New York City USA

Our company’s namesake being a key intersection within one of world’s most vibrant cities

During a short stay in New York City our Managing Director Steven Holloway was able to visit our company’s namesake Chatham Square in lower Manhattan. It was named after William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham and Prime Minister of Great Britain before the American Revolution. Chatham Square is now a busy intersection of eight streets: the Bowery, Doyers Street, East Broadway, St. James Place, Mott Street, Oliver Street, Worth Street and Park Row, on the edge of Chinatown.

There is a small park in the centre of the square is known as Kimlau Square with a memorial to honour United States service members of Chinese ancestry who have fought and died serving their country. And there is a statue of Lin Ze Xu a mid-19th century Chinese political philosopher and politician best known for his forceful opposition to the opium trade.
