Supporting Senior Executive Professional Development

Updating senior executive education courseware for geo-political and national strategic studies

The client’s challenge was to capture corporate knowledge of current course facilitators to create a repeatable and sustainable package that can be used by future staff.

Chatham Square, working with an industry partner provided subject matter expertise in the review and updating of senior executive education courseware as part of a broader curriculum supporting geo-political and national strategic studies.

The courseware updates related to capability management which included a capability decision making exercise covering a range of issues such as prioritisation, acceleration and contestability.

Our consultant supported the lead author and other team members in the development of the various artefacts that included briefs and guides for the visiting guest lecturers, senior mentors, role payers and exercise facilitators. This group, primarily comprised of senior leadership team members, were taking time away from their busy daily schedules to support the course and provide advice and feedback to students.

The key takeaways from this work were:

  • Understand your audience and draft your product accordingly
  • Determine what is the essential information for the reader to know
  • Avoid the use of lengthy paragraphs creating dense text
  • Maximise the use of headings and bullet points for readability
  • Keep a consistent format and structure throughout the document
