Contributing to advancing research that strengthens Australia’s military, civil and police capabilities

Chatham Square is proud to announce the renewal of its registration with the Army Research Network, an initiative of the Australian Army Research Centre under the Army Research Scheme. This program groups researchers and organisations by their specialties within the broad scope of Army interests, fostering collaboration and innovation.

As a registered organisation, Chatham Square will be invited to participate in targeted research opportunities released through a Request for Proposal process. These opportunities address priority questions and emerging areas of interest identified throughout the year. Research outputs may include Occasional Papers, journal articles for the Australian Army Journal, and blog posts for the Land Power Forum.

The Army Research Network is also accessed by partner agencies with shared objectives, including the Australian Civil-Military Centre and the Air and Space Power Centre, further broadening the reach and impact of participating organisations.

Our Research Focus Areas

Chatham Square has expanded its research focus from last year, and have nominated interest across the following agencies and domains:

Australian Army Research Centre. Our support for the Australian Army Research Centre will focus on:

• The State of the Australian Army Profession – Past, Present and Futures: Examining the evolution of the profession of arms within an Integrated Force, including how Army must adapt to the enduring and changing character of war.
• Defence of Australia: Analysing the challenges and opportunities shaping Army’s contribution to Australia’s defence posture.

Australian Civil-Military Centre. Our research interests for the Australian Civil-Military Centre spans a broad set of priority themes, including civil-military-police coordination, civil-military engagement, and civil-military coordination in maritime contexts. We will also explore the role of civil-military coordination in countering mis- and disinformation, as well as its relevance within grey-zone environments.
