Registered to undertake research on mobilisation, civil preparedness and civil-military police cooperation

Chatham Square is proud to be part of the Army Research Network, an initiative hosted by the Australian Army Research Centre under the Army Research Scheme. This program groups researchers and organisations by their specialties within the broad scope of Army interests, fostering collaboration and innovation.

To be eligible independent researchers and organisations were required to meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Current or prior service in a national or international military/defence organization.
• Affiliation with an academic institution or think tank.
• Registration as a business or institution specialising in rigorous academic research or strategic consultancy.

We have registered interest to support research in the following categories:

• Mobilisation: Examining the challenges and risks in the Army’s approach to accelerated preparedness.
• Civil Preparedness: Exploring national and collective capacities to prepare for, resist, respond to, and recover from strategic shocks and disruptions.
• Civil-Military-Police Cooperation: Investigating interactions among civilian, police, and military actors to enhance Australia’s and the region’s ability to respond effectively to crises and contingencies.

The Australian Army Research Centre will invite registered organisations to participate in specific research opportunities through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process. These invitations will focus on nominated categories, addressing questions or proposed areas of interest throughout the year. Selected organisations will submit proposals for evaluation, shortlisting, and final selection. Research outputs include:

• Occasional Papers
• Journal articles for the Australian Army Journal
• Blog posts for the Land Power Forum

The use of the network for research expertise will be available to other agencies with similar objectives. As such we have recently submitted a response to support the Australian Civil-Military Centre with a research opportunity to update to the 2020 Regional Consultative Group publication ‘Towards a Predictable Model’.
